Every year in May there is a reunion held at Warboys Church and Village Hall
remembering those that served in the RAF squadrons surrounding the area during
World War II.
The very first reunion took place in May 1984 and was organised by Mr Edgar
'Taff' Jones a Leading Aircraftsman based at Warboys, Cambridgeshire. The idea
for that reunion came from when he organised the commission and unveiling of a
plaque in Warboys Church that commemorated the aircrew and members of 156
Squadron. It was supposed to be just a 'one-off'!
At the height of success Taff saw over 300 people attend this annual event, a far
cry from the few that were able to make it to the very first. Since passing away
his daughter, Bronwen Wilkin and her family help out with the organisation. In 2008 we reached the 25th year and there are no plans to stop!
With the recent addition of the Lancaster flying display over the last few years
and to celebrate the success of these reunions, the idea of having a website was
born. In the true spirit of Taff, lets hope this is a 'one-off' success too!
The intention of the website is for people to look and remember, but also to
share, contribute and get involved.
The majority of the photographs and information currently shown on the website originate from the
Jones and Wilkin families, but we don't want it to end there. We are after your
kind assistance to offer photographs, dates and names, as well as your stories
and memories, and, indeed, anything else you want to share with other visitors
to this website. We aim to build a wealth of information regarding the events
over the last 25 years or so, and possibly the events of World War II in and
around the Warboys area.
Can you help with...
- More Photographs
- Names
- Dates
- Adding or correcting any details
- Stories and memories
- Guestbook comments
This is a dynamic project, so anything you wish to contribute and share with
other visitors to this website may well be included.
If you can, we would appreciate your time to get involved and hopefully
making this website a treasure of information and memories for everyone to
enjoy.
